Label and sticker removal from returned devices, especially laptops, has long consumed labor without adding real value. Reconext’s in-house engineering team built Atheris to address this low-visibility but time-intensive step by replacing a variable, hands-on task with a controlled and repeatable process requiring minimal human involvement.
Processing speeds increase, results become more consistent, and higher-value work takes priority.
How the System Works
Atheris combines vision, motion, and thermal control to remove labels without damaging device surfaces.
An automated vision system detects label size and edges, then adjusts blade position and angle based on the label’s location. A plastic blade removes the label mechanically, while a precision hot air nozzle softens the adhesive in advance.
The result is a consistent and predictable process across different device types and label formats.
Operational Impact
In practice, the system cuts label removal time to about 20–30 seconds per label with minimal human involvement. Consistent removal improves quality and reduces the risk of surface damage. Over time, the system learns common label patterns, reducing false positives and supporting scale across programs.
Deployment at Grapevine and Beyond
The first Atheris unit has shipped to our Grapevine facility, where it is being integrated into the VRS laptop process. Its role is straightforward: remove one of the most manual and least value-adding steps in device processing.
By taking sticker and label removal out of the workflow, teams spend less time on repetitive work and more time on higher-value activities.
Additional Atheris machines are already planned, including deployment at the Reynosa facility.
