Across our global network, Reconext teams look for ways to help young people in their communities pursue an education. Last month, our sites in Penang, Malaysia, and Mexicali, Mexico, each acted on that commitment.
Penang
Each day, the team at Reconext Penang restores used devices and returns them to productive use. In September, the site put that work into the hands of the people closest to home. Through our CSR Laptop Giveaway Program, the Penang facility presented refurbished laptops to employees whose children are starting university.
For these families, a child’s first year of university brings many new expenses at once. A personal laptop has become a basic requirement for study. That purchase often lands alongside tuition fees and the cost of moving away from home. By providing a laptop, we ease one part of that burden and give families more room to manage the rest of the transition.
Penang has long been one of Malaysia’s leading centers for electronics and technology manufacturing. Some of these students may one day build careers in the same industry where their parents work today. Each laptop came through Reconext’s own refurbishment process and now begins a longer useful life supporting a student’s studies.
Mexicali
In Mexicali, Reconext hosted its fourth annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony to honor student excellence. Two students sponsored by Reconext received scholarships to study at CETYS University. One scholarship supports study in its high school program, and the other supports university study.
Now in its fourth year, the program reflects a lasting relationship between our Mexicali sites and the local academic community.

Both programs grow from the same commitment to the communities around our sites. We congratulate every student and wish them success in the years ahead.
