Rethinking GPU Value Recovery in Data Center Decommissioning

Mar 18, 2026 | Data Center

GPUs are among the most valuable assets in any decommissioned server, yet most data centers aren’t recovering that value. The labor, risk, and time required to unlock it have always cost more than it’s worth.

Rackwipe changes that calculation.

The opportunity

Individual GPUs can resell for thousands of dollars on the secondary market, with validated hardware commanding a premium over units with no test history. As demand for affordable AI compute grows, so does the resale market, and a decommissioned server fleet represents real, recoverable revenue.

But at scale, teams must pull hardware, route it through separate workflows, and absorb the cost and risk of additional handling to extract that value.

How our solution works

Our proprietary Rackwipe system connects to servers through management ports and controller interfaces and runs forensic-grade DoD 5220.22-M erasure across every drive, config, and switch in parallel, no removal or physical handling required. The system automatically generates serialized audit logs throughout the process.

With our latest update, GPU stress testing runs as part of this same process, with no extra steps.

What changes operationally

Legacy decommissioning means pulling servers, processing them sequentially, and managing custody across multiple handoffs.

Rackwipe eliminates all of that. Racks are scanned, inventoried, wiped, and tested without leaving the floor.

For GPUs specifically, Rackwipe now validates cards that previously required removal and routing to a separate testing station in the same pass as erasure. Shorter site time, fewer resources tied up in handling, and a tighter chain of custody from start to finish.

What it means for your balance sheet

Because stress testing is folded into a process you’re already running, the cost of unlocking GPU resale value is effectively zero. Validated hardware moves faster through remarketing channels, physical handling risks that lead to asset loss are eliminated, and decommissioning shifts from a cost center to a source of recovered value.

If you’re decommissioning at scale, there’s a high likelihood you’re leaving GPU value unrealized today. Reach out to understand what you could unlock in your operation.
