Engineering a Second Life for Keyboards

Sep 16, 2025 | ITAD

When a leading global OEM needed a way to reuse existing keyboard inventory originally marked for one market, they turned to Reconext for a solution. The challenge was to convert the keyboards for a different language layout and avoid scrapping valuable stock.

Our engineering teams in Europe and Mexicali worked together to design a process that made the conversion possible. The approach involved stripping the original markings, repainting the keys, and applying new characters through precision laser engraving. This allowed the keyboards to be remarketed for a new market, preserving value and avoiding unnecessary waste.

The project demonstrates how Reconext delivers practical, technical solutions that extend product life and reduce costs. By collaborating across regions, we help OEMs unlock new opportunities from existing inventory while supporting their sustainability goals.

If your business is facing similar challenges with stranded inventory, Reconext’s Electronics Repair and Refurbishment service can help engineer the right solution.
